We Are Mired In Clouds
[2010, video-performance, 6’35 min.]
We Are Mired In Clouds integrates photos taken on base in Jalalabad, Afghanistan and an updated version of US news anchor Walter Cronkite’s 1968 Tet Offensive speech, “We Are Mired in Stalemate”. Created after my “media embed” with US servicewomen in Afghanistan, the video is both homage to Cronkite who passed away in 2009 and a response to President Obama’s speech calling for more troops to Afghanistan in December 2009. The video is part of my long-form video-performance First Assignment. We Are Mired In Clouds was first performed live as part of the Friends of Distinction show at Dan Graham Gallery (Los Angeles).
