Coverlands
[wax paper and thread, with audio overture, March 2009, Workspace Gallery, Los Angeles, solo exhibition,
part of the Ups and Downs Series, catalogue available]

Coverlands is a sculptural installation inspired by my recent journalistic embed with U.S. forces in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. The objects in the installation reference classified maps and woven blankets sold at the bazaar on base, and highlight the army’s effort to preserve U.S. national identities – as indicated by the aesthetics of home – in a foreign environment.
